Bike patrol focuses on being a visible deterrent to street crime and an approachable source of information within the community. Bike patrol officers can see over the heads of most pedestrians and over most vehicles. The bike also provides speed and mobility through crowded and narrow streets. “Bike officers can patrol larger areas more frequently in shorter periods of time, thus being more visible and accessible to the general public. Officers become more approachable and less threatening, and officer also become more involved in their community and increases their knowledge of community needs through increased positive contact.”
